Welcome to my Blog

37 seconds and it’s over

2nd July 2020

37 seconds and it’s over

‘They’ say the average person spends 37 seconds reading a blog! 37 seconds, that’s it, it’s over, done, finished, the END… on average.

What do you reckon? Unless my blogs are incredibly short or you are a wonderfully quick reader or I pull something amazing out of the bag each time I post, much of my blog may go unread.

Who’d have thought!

Take this moment for example, having read and reread the text above I now know that we only have another 13 seconds together if the average is even achieved.
Is it “goodbye” or “I’d like to read more”… 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Still here? That’s great, thanks, thanks a lot for reading on. Genuinely, thank you.

May I welcome you to my blog WHAT’S GOT BIG? It’s my debut blog, my very first blog and a blog that I am excited to post. Although an introductory blog, the first in a string of blogs that I hope you return to.

So, whilst I have you; I have some questions:
  • Why are you still here?
  • What have you read that is making you want to read on?
  • What value are you receiving from my blog?
  • Will you return to WHAT’S GOT BIG? Blog 2?

I have always had a fascination in what makes ‘things’ appeal to us. When I say ‘things’ I mean all ‘things’; big ‘things’, small ‘things’, simple ‘things’, trivial ‘things’, important ‘things’, funny ‘things’, sad ‘things’. THINGS!

We are surrounded by ‘things’. People ‘things’, material ‘things’, ‘things’ in nature, ‘things’ in shops, ‘things’ we hear, ‘things’ we feel, ‘things’ we read. Sporty ‘things’, musical ‘things’, hobbies and interest ‘things’, But what makes ‘things’ meaningful to us? What makes them become our ‘things’?

We are constantly choosing and filtering. Choosing to tune in, engage, click on, invest or choosing to click off, ignore, avoid, turn over, scroll past.

I like to think that our connections are all dependent upon our ability to deem ‘things’ as worthwhile. A good friend of mine, a friend I choose to engage with and tune into, often replaced the word connect with the word chime. He used it to describe a moment when a ‘thing’ became meaningful and significant, believable and connective, he was in tune with it. A moment involving thoughts, involving feelings and at times, body sensations.

I now use the word chime often when describing important life content. I am very aware of my chime moments. I enjoy the thoughts, feelings and body sensations I get when something ‘chimes’ with me.

  • What chimes with you?
  • What was the last ‘thing’ to have chimed with you?
  • How do you feel when something chimes?

Connect with helpful, scrolling past the unwanted. A wonderful rule of thumb.

Our time together is almost up, I wasn’t sure what I was going to share in my debut blog. Having googled ‘how to blog?’ I became all too aware of the tips and pitfalls of what successful blog writing is deemed to be. My goodness blog writing has so many rules!

WHAT’S GOT BIG?

is a blog that explores ‘things’, ‘things’ in life that will sometimes chime and sometimes not. A blog that examines how these ‘things’ make us feel when we choose to look at them honestly, authentically and genuinely. Only when we look at our life ‘things’ in this way can we truly make sense of them.

Blog 2… The concept of ‘STUFF’

I look forward to making it to the bottom of Blog 2 with you.

Take care,
